Subject of Update

We spent a couple of days visiting with Penelope, Victoria, Riley, and Addison.  Here are a few pictures from that visit.

For three weeks we hosted a version of Granny Camp.  This was during the time Beth and Jon's four girls were staying with us.  The other six grandchildren visited when their family schedules allowed.  Victoria, Beth, and Preston all had birthdays during this time.  Here are a few pictures taken during this time.

We had a birthday celebration at our home for Victoria's first birthday.  All of our grandchildren were able to attend.

We recently visited with Preston and his family.  During that weekend, David and his family joined us as we all went to Frank's home to swim. 

Once again the Martin sisters and many of their family members gathered in Myrtle Beach for their annual reunion.  Here are some pictures from that gathering.

We recently spent a week in Branson.  While there we attended the World Fest at Silver Dollar City where we saw entertainers and food from around the world.  We also saw a couple of stage shows in Branson.

We just returned from a visit with Riley, Addison, Penelope, and Victoria.  During our visit we delivered a birthday present for Penelope who celebrated her 2nd birthday.

The Cayman Crew gathered for their annual stay on Grand Cayman Island.

Most of these pictures were taken at the end of December.  The last few pictures were taken a couple of weeks later.

In October, Granny and Granddad visited with the Pierce family.  Here are a few pictures from that visit.

We took the ferry from Coronado to San Diego to visit the aircraft carrier Midway and other ships in the area.

We spent two days at the zoo.  Here are some of the pictures we took.  We saw a lot more animals than pictures here, but they were difficult to photograph.

During our first week in California we stayed in Oceanside.  These pictures were taken during that week.

We visited the Reagan Presidential Library when we were in California.

We helped Frank and his family celebrate his 40th birthday.  His brothers and their families were also there as were Susan's parents.

In September, Farris and I visited with Penelope, Victoria, Riley, and Addison.

Preston, Ashley, and big sister Penelope welcomed Victoria Emory to their family on August 8.  She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz. and measured 20 inches.

A fox family (mom and two kits) visited us the other morning.  Here are a few pictures from their visit.

After getting home from our trip to South Dakota and Colorado, we took a quick trip to see Riley, Addison, and Penelope and their families.

Normally we avoid the pure "touristy" things but Dodge City was just something we had to do.  While it was very "touristy," it was a lot of fun.  A good way to end our trip.

On the way home we planned on going up Pikes Peak.  When we got there the road was closed due to a car race on the road up the mountain.  After that, we visited the Air Force Academy.

Our last day in Vail we visited Beaver Creek, one of the many "Pricey" developments in the area.  We also took a gondola ride up one of the many ski slopes.

We visited Leadville which is supposed to be the highest incorporated city in the U.S.  While there we continued our practice of eating at local diners.

We took a day trip to the Rocky Mountain National Park.  Both the park and the trip there were beautiful.

We took a picnic lunch to Piney Lake.  The trip there was over 12 miles of a narrow and sometimes winding dirt road.  It was worth the trip.

While in Colorado we visited with Neal and Denise Henley and their daughters Kayla and Emily.

We visited Aspen and the Maroon Bells.

On the way to Vail we visited Fish Creek Falls.

On our way to Colorado we visited the Mammoth Dig in southern South Dakota.

Our last day with Sharon and Earl was also their 49th wedding anniversary.  We went out to eat to celebrate the occasion and then drove through a wildlife park.

Farris and I visited the Crazy Horse monument.  This project was conceived 50 years ago and is still a work in progress.  The head of Crazy Horse is larger than the combined carvings on Mount Rushmore.  There is an excellent visitors' center at this site.

We visited Lead and Deadwood, South Dakota.  Earl was our tour guide once again.

Our hosts for the South Dakota portion of our trip were Sharon and Earl.

During our first day in South Dakota we visited the Badlands, Wall, Reptile Gardens, and Bear Country.

We went to the lake to celebrate the 4th with Frank, Susan, Zach, and Emily and Susan's parents.

We had an early birthday celebration with Riley and Addison.  We also visited with Penelope.

Zachery, Emily, and Penelope enjoyed some pool time at our home.

We took Kelly Jefferson for a tour of Coleman Gardens.  We look forward to next year when we can visit the gardens when they are in bloom.

In June we attended the annual Martin sister's reunion in Myrtle Beach.

In June, Farris and I met Jim and Rachel Tiller, Elizabeth Martin, and Wirt Taylor in Kingsport for a mini-reunion of childhood friends.

On April 26, Farris and I visited the campus of Va. Tech.  This picture is of the temporary memorial to the victims of the tragedy.  Many other tributes were in the student union,

Farris and I left Myrtle Beach and visited with the Pierce girls.  While there we attended activities, celebrated birthdays, and played.

In April we met Pete and Sally in Myrtle Beach.  Here are some pictures from that visit.

We celebrated Penelope's 1st birthday here on Saturday, February 17 (her actual birthday is Feb. 19).  David, Leigh, Riley, and Addison as well as Zachery and Emily joined us for the celebration.  Here are some pictures from the weekend celebration.

The Cayman Crew (minus Earl and Sharon) returned to Grand Cayman for the first time since Hurricane Ivan destroyed much of the island in September 2004.  Here are some pictures from our triumphant return.

Farris and I met Pete and Sally for a week in Las Vegas.  Here are a few pictures from that trip.

Here are the last few pictures from the Christmas visit.  Since Leigh's birthday is in late December, we took time to celebrate it with a cake made and decorated by the children.

Everyone was here after Christmas so we had a delayed celebration.

We spent Christmas Day with David and his family.

One afternoon we were able to meet Susan to watch both Zachery and Emily play basketball.  Leigh, Riley, and Addison also attended.

We attended Riley's Christmas program at school and watched her perform.  Afterwards, we went by their home and spent some time with Addison.
